To me one of the best things about living in this area is the fact that we experience four seasons: the renewal promised by spring, the fun in the sun summer, the crispness of fall, and the snow globe wonder of winter.
But enough of the snow and the cold already! I am weary of the boots, the heavy jackets, hats and gloves. It is such an effort to get ready to go out. I am longing for capris and sandals.
Everyone I talk to is feeling tired and sad and blames it on the weather. Are we all suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder? Seasonal affective disorder (also called SAD) is a type of depression that occurs at the same time every year. If you're like most people with seasonal affective disorder, your symptoms start in the fall and may continue into the winter months, sapping your energy and making you feel moody. Well, I have been feeling like that since the end of January. But I don’t think we’re all suffering from SAD.
I think all the snow and cold just drains the energy out of us. Usually, we would get a snowstorm…..then a few days of 40 degree temperatures to melt everything…then another storm. That is what we are used to dealing with. But now, with the number of storms and the freezing temperatures, there seems to be no relief from it…no promise of spring!
"Boat drinks.
Waitress, I need two more boat drinks.
Then I'm headin south 'fore my dream shrinks.
I gotta where it's warm.
I gotta go where it's warm.
I gotta go where it's warm.
I gotta go where there ain't any snow,
where there ain't any blow,
'cause my fin sinks so low.
I gotta go where it's warm."
