Don’t procrastinate on your reading: It is important to stay on top of your reading and postings. If you simply complete your reading and homework assignments as they are given, you will not be overwhelmed later. Although it may seem like a daunting task at the time, you will be thankful later that you did the assignment when it was given.
Get a planner: I would be lost without my planner. I use it at work and at home to keep track of where I need to be when and what needs to done. Balancing classes may seem easy, but in reality it is a lot of work. Having a planner to keep track of assignments will help you to stay focused on your work.
Be aware of deadlines: Make sure all papers and posts are on time. Start papers a few weeks before they are due. Do yourself a favor and don’t lower your grade by handing in something late.
Talk to your advisor: Talking to your advisor at the beginning of the quarter is a great way to stay on track. Your advisor can help you with any of your academic needs, and make sure that you are taking the right courses needed for your major and that you are on track to graduate. If your advisor calls or emails you be sure to respond.
Talk to your professors: If you are having trouble understanding some coursework or if you have a problem, please talk to your professors. They want you to do well and are willing to work with you.
Ask for help: Going to college is exciting and stimulating. It can also overwhelm students who are trying to balance classes, tests, work, relationships, family and friends. This can place new demands on time and energy. You may find it helpful to discuss personal concerns with a professional counselor, like me, who takes the time to listen and understand.
