The entire Berkeley College Community mourns the victims of the Sunday shooting in Orlando. We understand that this may be a time of grief and turmoil for many of you directly or indirectly impacted by this tragedy.
At such times, you may be struggling to understand how a shooting like this could occur and why such a terrible thing would happen. It is typical for people to experience a variety of emotions such as anxiety, worry, stress, grief, vulnerability, sadness and anger. You may have difficulty sleeping or concentrating and may feel that the world is a more dangerous place today than you did yesterday. This is normal. For most of us these responses diminish naturally with the passage of time.
If you continue to feel overwhelmed or if you are struggling to deal with the aftermath of this tragedy, we are certainly available to directly assist you or we can help to find you a local referral. Additionally, we’ve attached a guideline that may be helpful to you in coping with this terrible tragedy.
The Personal Counseling Staff expresses our heartfelt concern and we hope that you’ll reach out to us if we can provide you with any support and assistance in any way we can ( see the contact information sheet at counseling help drop down and guideline for coping with such tragedies drop down). Please know there are counselors who are here to assist students with the range of emotions that accompany such tragic events.
Please be sure to reach out to us... We are here for you during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
The Berkeley College Personal Counseling Staff
